Compensation: ~$80,000-$100,000 base salary

About the Role

A leading oil & gas operator headquartered in Downtown Denver is seeking a highly organized, detail-driven Accounts Payable Manager to oversee all AP operations. This role will lead a small team, streamline processes, and partner cross-functionally with operations, land, and accounting to ensure timely and accurate financial execution. The ideal candidate has strong industry experience, thrives in a fast-paced environment, and is motivated by building best-in-class AP practices.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Team Management

  • Lead, mentor, and develop an AP team responsible for high-volume invoice processing and vendor management.
  • Set team goals, manage workloads, and oversee performance standards and review cycles.
  • Promote a culture of accuracy, accountability, and continuous improvement.

AP Operations & Process Optimization

  • Manage the full-cycle AP function, ensuring timely invoice approvals, coding accuracy, and adherence to company policies.
  • Oversee workflow within ERP/AP automation systems (e.g., OpenInvoice, WellView, SAP, Oracle, or similar).
  • Implement and refine processes to increase efficiency, reduce discrepancies, and strengthen internal controls.
  • Monitor daily AP activity including vendor set-ups, three-way matching, statement reconciliations, and check/ACH/wire processing.

Vendor & Internal Stakeholder Relations

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for vendor escalations and issue resolution.
  • Build strong relationships with field operations, procurement, land, and accounting teams to maintain alignment.
  • Negotiate payment terms where beneficial and ensure proper compliance with contractual obligations.

Reporting & Compliance

  • Prepare weekly and monthly AP metrics, KPIs, and aging reports for leadership.
  • Assist with month-end close activities including accruals, variance analysis, and AP reconciliations.
  • Support internal and external audits by providing documentation and improving audit readiness.
  • Ensure compliance with SOX controls, accounting standards, and company policies.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field preferred.
  • 5+ years of progressive AP experience, with at least 2+ years in a leadership or supervisory capacity.
  • Prior experience in the oil & gas industry or energy services strongly preferred.
  • Proficiency with ERP and AP workflow systems (OpenInvoice experience is a strong plus).
  • Strong understanding of GAAP, accruals, and internal controls.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-volume environment with shifting priorities.
